What a 'foot run' actually measures

Cabinet pricing is quoted per foot of cabinet length. A typical HDB kitchen with cabinets along one wall might have 8–10ft of top cabinets and 8–10ft of bottom cabinets — quoted either as separate top/bottom rates or a combined rate for both.

This is the first comparison trap: one quote's '16ft kitchen' may mean 16ft combined top-and-bottom, while another means 16ft of bottom plus 16ft of top. Always confirm what the feet count includes before comparing rates.

Indicative kitchen carpentry costs

From PRDT's pricing model, for a typical full kitchen (cabinets top and bottom):

Externally identical cabinets diverge in five places:

• •Internal configuration — drawers, pull-out baskets, and organisers add up faster than external size
• •Countertop material and profile — laminate, quartz, sintered stone; thickness and edge profiles matter
• •Accessories — tall units, open shelving, glass doors, integrated bins and appliances housing

Reading a carpentry quote like a contractor

A well-specified kitchen carpentry line states, at minimum:

• •Feet run, separated into top and bottom cabinets
• •Carcass material and laminate brand/series
• •Countertop material, brand and thickness, including sink and hob cut-outs
• •Hardware brand for hinges and runners
• •Number of drawers and internal accessories included

Common kitchen carpentry surprises

Three items regularly appear as additions after signing: sink and hob cut-out charges (sometimes priced separately from the countertop), backsplash treatment (glass, tile, or matching stone — often excluded), and gas or plumbing points that the carpentry assumes but doesn't include.

If your quotation bundles the kitchen as one number, ask for it broken down — a contractor who priced the job properly can split it without difficulty, and the breakdown is what makes quotes comparable.
